Town of Addison
The Town’s comprehensive asset management program will provide an integrated, town-wide vision for all assets.
The Town of Addison (Town) provides a variety of services to its residents, businesses, and visitors. In order to provide these services, the Town needs both staff and infrastructure. This infrastructure includes a variety of things that many take for granted: roads, bridges, buildings, sidewalks, parks, landscape, street lights, and more. These assets are vital in allowing the Town to deliver important services to the community.
Members of the community all share the benefits provided by these assets. They drive on the roads to work. They play in the parks after school. They walk on the sidewalks and trails for exercise. They rely on storm drains and waterways to prevent flooding. However, they also share in the responsibility to maintain, repair, and replace these assets.
The Town is embarking on developing and implementing a comprehensive asset management program to gain better understanding of the current and future asset needs, asset risk profile, appropriate levels of service, cost to provide services, and financial and resource requirements to sustain the delivery of services. The Town’s comprehensive asset management program will provide an integrated, town-wide vision for all assets. The asset management program will provide the data foundation, business processes, and IT infrastructure to effectively manage the Town’s current and future infrastructure needs.
The Town has taken a proactive approach to developing this program. The first step in this program was to gather a variety of data. This involved an inventory of what the Town owns, what condition those assets are in, and what needs immediate attention. The next part of the journey is to plan for the future of these assets. This involves determining how long an asset will last, what needs to be done in between replacements, and how much all of this costs.
With asset management, the Town will be able to proactively manage its assets, find a balance between the cost and level of service, and establish a data-driven approach to communicating the needs of sustaining the Town's infrastructure.
